2. Swimming lessons commence this Friday the 27th October. Please make sure your child's permission forms have been returned back to school and your child has everything they need for their lessons (togs, towel, t-shirt of rash shirt, thongs or footwear to wear to and from the pool and swimming cap).

Maths – recognising angles in real situations and place value (numbers up to ten thousand)

Term 4 Overview
Term 4 News!
This term will be very busy in and outside the classroom!
Students will be participating in swimming lessons and the swimming carnival! Dates and times will be added to blogs and twitter later this term.
The Christmas Concert will take place in the last week of term. Again check blogs and twitter closer to the date for information.
Learning Overview
In Religion, students will demonstrate an understanding of prayers of thanksgiving and praise. This will link in with our Media unit, where students will create and present a media artwork (power point) to communicate their viewpoints. We will also be exploring the four Gospels of the New Testament. Students will outline the audience, era and purpose of each of the Gospels. They will use this information about these texts to discuss the life and teachings of Jesus as the Messiah.
In English, we will be revisiting each writing genre again this term (Narrative, Information Report and Persuasive). Students will draft a written piece for each genre using a stimulus picture. They will then choose their best draft/ genre to publish and submit for assessment.
In Mathematics, students will deepen their knowledge and skills in Chance, Telling Time to the nearest minute, Measurement, Angles, as well as Number and Place Value.

In Digital Technologies, students will create a graph displaying the results from a chance experiment.

Students will no longer be required to memorise 8 spelling words. Instead, this term we will be studying the origin of words - etymology. In class, students will be looking at the origin and definition of 5 words (each week); as well as putting them into sentences and searching for synonyms. This will help strengthen the students vocabulary and word knowledge, especially for writing tasks. To revise this research, children will be writing sentences for the 5 words as their homework task.

Important Notes:
- The Father’s Day: stall is on Tuesday the 29th of August. Gifts range from $1-$5.
- The Father’s Day Liturgy: is being held Friday morning in the Church. Please remember to RSVP. Check the school’s twitter and Facebook for more detail.
- Rugby: Some students in Year Three are attending a Rugby Gala day on Thursday. Further information regarding the day was sent home last week.
- Ms Murphy: Our beautiful school officer Nerida Murphy is leaving our school this week. To celebrate her outstanding commitment to our school, we will be having a farewell party on Wednesday. If you’re able to, please bring a plate of food to share.
- This week we are focusing on finishing assessment and revising key concepts of the term.

- We are off to the Ekka on Thursday 17th August for our Excursion! Permission notes will be going home today. Please make sure you sign these and return them before the due date. If there have been any medical changes for your child, please write them down on the note in the given space.
- We will be taking a few Parent/Carer helpers from every class to the Excursion to help look after a small group for the day. If you are free and would like to help, please email me.

Term 2: Week 2
I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing Easter break with their loved ones, and is ready for an exciting term.
I was very fortunate to visit Kenya and Tanzania during the holidays. I saw many amazing animals at the Serengeti and Masai Maria. I also visited many local tribes and villages.

What’s happening this week:
- Tuesday the 25th of April: Students are invited to march in the ANZAC parade at the Greenbank RSL. If you are interested please meet staff at 9:30am on the corner of Blackwell St and ANZAC Parade. Students need to be wearing their full school uniform (including hats).
- Thursday the 27th of April: Free Dress day for Caritas. Please bring in a gold coin donation.
Term 2 Learning:
In Religion we are exploring the Sacraments of Initiation and belonging to a Catholic community. Students will design a welcoming ritual for a new student using this knowledge.
In English this term we are producing persuasive texts. Our task is to persuade an audience on what we believe is Australia’s best landmark. This learning links in with our Geography unit, where we explore natural and man-made landmarks of Australia.
In Science we are investigating how heat can impact materials. We will conduct an experiment to investigate how solids become liquids.
In Health we will explore strategies to help us interact positively with others in different situations. Our task is to present a role-play of a resolution to a conflict situation.

Week 3 News:
- Homework commences this week. Homework is handed out on Mondays, and is due in on Fridays.
- Parent Teacher Information night is on the 8th of February. This event commences at 6.00pm. This night is an opportunity for parents and teachers to establish partnerships. It is a chance for parents to find out about school life, expectations and procedures. This is a parent only event.
- The school’s weekly maths challenge commences this week.
Important Things to Know:
- We have had an AMAZING start to Year Three! I am very impressed to see everyone’s readiness to learn, enthusiasm and work habits.
- Sports uniform can be worn on Mondays (when we have PE) and on Fridays.
- Library is on Monday
- Music is on Thursday.
- Homework (spelling and number facts) will be commencing in Week 3; while home-readers will start to be sent home towards the end of Week 2.
